So as I sat down to write this morning I thought hmm what direction do I want to take this in. I quickly pulled up my blog and realized I have not posted an article in two weeks! My initial reaction to seeing this was one of disappointment, guilt, and shame. And although I felt those things, I was able to objectively realize that these feelings are not conducive to action. In fact, these feelings may keep us “stuck” or “paralyzed” from moving forward and taking action. Forget the guilt, the shame, the disappointment – keep that in the past, focus on the present.
I am sure over the course of the last few months, if you have been reading some of my articles and social media posts, you might have noticed a common theme about action.
ACTION is KEY.
I struggle with it. At times, I find myself getting overwhelmed in my mind about my actions or lack of actions and this inadvertently leads to inaction.
Have you ever experienced this? Whether it’s missing a few days in a row of exercising, falling off logging your food, getting sucked into work and forgetting to make time for yourself? We are human. This happens.
However, the difference between complacency and change is taking action. No matter how big or small they may be, taking steps towards a goal or a dream will lead to those things coming into fruition.
There was a book I read a couple of years ago called The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson. The premise of the book spoke about how all of our actions or inactions are compound interest. So no matter how big or how small they are, they add up in one direction or another.
So where am I going with this?
No matter where you are in your life… if you want something to be different, you must take action. Wishing, hoping, and dreaming, are great initial steps, they give us a sense of direction. But, if that’s all we do, nothing will change.
Taking action may SEEM uncomfortable but once we engage in the process, we will soon realize it IS empowering.
Doing what we know feels safe, but it also gives us more of the same. So my wish for you today is to take action, do one thing, to make you better in whatever area that may be in. Take this tool, action, and put it to use!
